The Process of Computer Game Design

Here is a glimpse of what happens in the process of designing a game for computers.

* Storyline development: At this stage, the designers are looking at what the game will be all about. Is there a villain who finally dies after being hunted by the gamer? Is it a prince trying to save his princess from a burning house?

Whatever the story, it needs to be compelling and believable.

* Setting the rules/scoring guide: A computer game design must factor in how players will be rated and the rules they must follow to make the top scores.

* Determining difficulty level: If you go through the list of popular computer games globally, you will notice that they have different levels from beginner to expert to challenge players as they continue using the game.

* Building the interface: The interface is what the user/player will interact with once they open the game. It should be easy to navigate and understand. This is where graphic designers spend most of their time in the development stage.

* Programming: Some of the things that happen during programming include coding and ensuring that the commands are working well.

After programming, digital editing is done, followed by the rendering of images. Then the game is tested for usability before being released to the players. It can take a while, depending on the complexity of the game and the experience of the designers.
